This home in Syracuse Lake, Indiana is on the market for $1,799,900.
And the retro-innovative space - complete with jukebox - is a real showstopper.
"There's a 1950s diner by the water," says listing agent Deb Paton Showley of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group-Warsaw. The sellers "recreated something that looks like an authentic piece from that period, in terms of materials and style."
The restaurant is part of a one-bedroom guesthouse located on 83 feet of shoreline on the property.
"It was really just a guesthouse with a full kitchen, and when they had a lot of company it became an overflow," explains Patton-Shawley." Then they had an idea to renovate it in the style of a restaurant to make it an entertainment venue, so they did just that. ...... They even enlarged a picture of their high school friends as part of the wall decor."
And everything in the restaurant conveys that with the house.
"Everyone seems to feel like it belongs there, and so far everyone who has considered the property has asked to keep it," Patton-Shawley said.
The house was built in 1962 and while some of its original elements have been preserved, it has also undergone a major renovation in the nearly 40 years the sellers have owned the place.
"They wanted to incorporate the original feel and essence of the house, so they kept the beams and a lot of it stayed the same," says Paton Showley.
One of the house's original features is its circular fireplace.
I've seen some of these fireplaces in some lakefront properties, but never a copper fireplace like this one," she says, noting that the fireplace is still functional. The owners "feel it is the centrepiece of the house, a work of art. You can see this fireplace from the kitchen, the dining room, the living room and the foyer, and you also have a view of the lake from all of these places.
The 4,476 square foot main house has 6 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. The sellers initially used the home as a retreat but eventually moved in full time.
Paton Showley says the house is in good condition, but could use some cosmetic updates if the buyer wishes.
However, there is one amenity that does not need to be modified.
"It's like the view sinks into your soul and you can't forget it," she says.
Conveniently, the home is within a few hours' drive of Chicago, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio.
