Abstract: Quiet luxury is an interior design trend that brings to light the saying "money talks, but wealth whispers".

Sure, trendy furniture or decor with designer labels will clearly communicate that you have cash to spend. But a home that embraces elegance, quality and - this is key - understated design is the mark of true luxury living.

"You want to create a space that oozes sophistication but isn't overwhelming," says London-based interior designer Rudolph Diesel." This gives you a subtle sense of luxury without the need for big, bold branding or features to be in front of you."

To help you incorporate this high-end style into your home, we've put together a guide that focuses primarily on bedroom decorating tips and shopping advice. Here's how to transform your sleeping room into a chic space that's awash with opulence in a subtle way.

5 design tips for quiet luxury in the bedroom

1. Choose a neutral colour palette

Tranquil luxury isn't about loud colours and exaggerated accents. Instead, it's more about subtle shades that help create a sense of elegance.

With this in mind, Diesel suggests a neutral palette for your bedroom, which can help promote peace and tranquillity while still being easy to style.

Choose soft and sophisticated shades such as soft beige, blush pink, and dove grey.

2. Use natural and organic materials

Try to avoid furniture and accessories made from faux wood or polyester materials. These items look cheap and often don't last very long.

"Instead, make use of natural and organic materials which are long-lasting, eco-friendly and comfortable," says Artem Kropovinsky, an interior designer and founder of Arsight, an interior design studio based in New York." These can bring texture and warmth to your bedroom."

Higher-end materials include cotton, linen, silk, leather, wood, stone and metal.

One of Kropovinsky's go-to shops is Parachute, which stocks a wide range of bedding, toiletries and homeware made from ethically sourced natural elements.

Their products are uncomplicated, comfortable and stylish," he says.

One of his favourite choices is the Linen Venice set, which has a sheet, two pillowcases and a duvet cover.

"It's made of 100% European linen, which is soft, breathable and durable," says Kropovinsky.

3. Committed to creating timeless, well-crafted pieces

It can be tempting to buy cheap items simply because they are trendy. However, when it comes to quiet luxury, high-quality items that will last for years to come are king.

"Invest in classic furniture, bedding, lamps, rugs or accessories that will stand the test of time and never lose their appeal," says Kropovinsky.

One of his favourite shops to buy top quality furniture from is Restoration Hardware.

"Restoration Hardware is a brand known for its classic and contemporary home décor with sophisticated and glossy products," Kropovinsky says." Their products are made from top quality materials and feature superb craftsmanship and design."

Kropovinsky's top choice is the French Contemporary Dresser. It is made of solid wood and has a streamlined silhouette.

"This dresser is available in a variety of finishes and sizes to give your bedroom an elegant feel and provide storage space," he explains.

Another place to buy pieces that fit into a quietly luxurious style is Serena & Lily.

"Serena & Lily is a brand that specialises in coastal-inspired home décor that is bright, airy and sophisticated," says Kropovinsky.

Their shop and website are filled with gorgeous furniture, artwork and more, but one of Kropovinsky's favourite items is the Balboa headboard.

"This handmade rattan headboard," he says, "is lightweight, sturdy and stylish." It also adds texture and interest to your bedroom."

4. Keep a minimalist space

Creating a space that's all about quiet luxury isn't a one-off thing. Instead, you need to make sure you keep your bedroom organised and hold only the items you absolutely love.

"Edit out any excess or distracting items and create a focal point or a statement piece in your bedroom," says Kropovinski.

If you like to pile things up, invest in elegant storage vessels (such as wooden crates) to keep your space tidy. Sorting through your clothes and belongings every few months and donating what you don't need can also work wonders.

5. Incorporate personalised touches

When embracing the quiet luxury trend, it's important to remember to incorporate unique and meaningful elements into your space.

"Artwork, books, plants, candles or photographs can inject personality and appeal into your bedroom," says Kropovinsky.

Thoughtfully arrange some of your favourite coffee table books, sculptures and candles on surfaces to give your space a unique edge.

To find items that exude quiet luxury, Diesel suggests visiting a local artisan market or boutique. If you don't have one nearby, Etsy is always a good source.

"When it comes to furniture and décor, I would explore high-end thrift shops or antique shops where you can uncover vintage pieces with character and history," Diesel says.
